Frequently Asked Questions
-
Q: What strength is your sodium hypochlorite?
A: Our sodium hypochlorite is a 12.5% strength solution. This means 12.5% of the product is the active sodium hypochlorite component, with the remainder comprised of water and stabilizers. In common lab terms this is expressed as 12.5% w/w (weight/weight) or, for practical use, as a 12.5% active available chlorine concentration.
Why 12.5% matters
Pools: 12.5% sodium hypochlorite delivers a high available chlorine level suitable for shock dosing and maintaining free chlorine levels when diluted correctly. Always follow pool manufacturer or local guidelines for target ppm (parts per million) and calculate dosage based on pool volume.
Pressure washing and soft wash: 12.5% provides strong sanitizing and bleaching action when diluted for surface cleaning. For soft wash applications, this concentrate is typically diluted heavily (often 10:1 for vinyl siding or per your specific soft wash system and surface requirements) to avoid damage to landscaping, siding, or roofing materials.
Commercial disinfection: 12.5% is commonly used in institutional and municipal settings where measured dilution yields required disinfectant concentrations for surfaces, wastewater, and equipment.
Safety and handling
Always dilute before use according to application-specific guidelines.
Use appropriate PPE: gloves, eye protection, and ventilation.
Do not mix with acids, ammonia, or other cleaners—dangerous gases can form.
Store in a cool, shaded area in original container and keep away from direct sunlight and heat to preserve stability.
Practical dilution examples (typical, always verify for your use)
Pool shock target: To raise free chlorine by X ppm, calculate required grams/L or mL of 12.5% solution based on pool volume and target; refer to pool chemistry tables or consult a pool professional.
Soft wash: Many systems recommend dilutions in the range of 1:1 - 1:10 depending on soil load and surface; test a small area first.
General surface disinfection: Typical working solutions for hard non-porous surfaces often fall in the range of 500–5,000 ppm available chlorine depending on use; convert desired ppm to mL of 12.5% per liter using standard concentration formulas.
If you need specific dilution calculations for a pool size, a soft wash ratio for a particular surface, or ppm targets for disinfection, provide the application details and I will calculate exact volumes and safety steps.
